5 ways to beat the January Blues
With the joys of Christmas and New Year behind us, the decorations tucked away back in the loft, our homes, as well ourselves are often left feeling a bit empty at the start of the year. Thankfully, it’s nothing unusual and millions of people (2 million in the UK alone) experience this lull in emotions - commonly known as the January Blues.
But it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. We’ll see your Blue Monday and raise you many happy Mondays across the whole month (and rest of 2023) instead, with our top 5 tips to help you beat the blues this January!
Plus we've added some some fantastic gift ideas (to suite every budget) so you could treat yourself, your staff or even your favourite client this new year.
1. Enjoy The Daylight
Head outside as much as you can. Lack of sunlight in winter can leave you feeling sleepy, disoriented, and irritable. Your lunch break is a great time to nip out for some Vitamin D. You could even challenge yourself to take a photo every time you take a ‘sun break’!

2. Set Realistic New Year's Resolutions
Saying you want to use your phone less this year doesn't mean going straight from six screen hours to two. Start by changing the notification settings that keep pinging for your attention. Then maybe in February put your phone in a drawer at 9pm every weekday. Little changes build positive long lasting habits!

3. Exercise
Moving your body is one of the biggest mood boosters there is, this doesn’t mean you have to join a gym, head out for a brisk walk at lunch time, and soak up that daylight while you are at it. It can be tough to get started if like team needi you relaxed during the Christmas period but we promise you’ll feel better for it.

4. Eat Properly
When we’re feeling down we crave sugary junk food, try to avoid this as much as possible and eat healthy foods, such as nuts, fruit and veg, pulses and grains. Of course everything is fine in moderation, we have a golden rule for avoiding ‘snaccidents’ at work: If you know what it tastes like, you don’t need to have it. If it’s a one time opportunity (like one of Rach’s homemade double chocolate flapjacks) then treat yourself! It’s saved us from dipping into the treat drawer many times.
