Merchant Spotlight: Cheshire Cheese

Nov 19, 2025

Here at needi, we love cheese so much we could easily be mistaken for a mischief* of mice.

So when Cheshire Cheese joined the fold, we were overjoyed. FINALLY… a legitimate reason to taste-test a mountain of the good stuff, all in the name of “research”.

We caught up with founder Edward, who gave us the inside scoop on all things Cheshire Cheese - where award-winning cheese has been handcrafted to time-honoured recipes since 1957.

From Jerk Spice to Ale & Mustard, Truffle & Black Pepper to Gin & Lemon, there’s a truckle to suit every taste.

*Delightful little fact: “mischief” really is the collective noun for a group of mice.

Business: Cheshire Cheese

1. What inspired you to start your business?

We started with a range of products in a veg box. Our cheese was the most popular product in the box, and so we began to build a business around it.

We did farmers markets, then Christmas markets, which turned into having our own deli shops. Our sole aim is to make people happy with our exceptional cheese.

2. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far on your journey?

Service is everything. If you don't treat your customers well, you don't have a business.

3. What makes your business special?

We are one of the very few people who make waxed cheese end to end.

We source the milk from the local farms, make the cheese in our dairy, mature it on-site and then blend and wax it in-house, too.

There are virtually no other companies that do this. Because of this, we can manage the quality of cheese to be consistent with flavours that are market-leading.

4. What's your favourite product and why?

Masala - Mango Chutney and Nigella Seeds in a Red Leicester cheese.

Try it and you'll find out why! It's a best-seller in the specialty cheese world and our fastest-growing product internationally.

5. What’s the top piece of advice you would give to fellow small business owners?

Keep your identity at your core, stand true to your company, and always keep hold of your WHY. As soon as small businesses lose their why, they lose their identity and blend into the grey of the supermarket shelves.

6. What’s the most memorable gift you’ve ever received?

A selection of nut products delivered to a nut free site. Memorable…for all the wrong reasons!
