📋 The needi merchant Q&A 

What inspired you to start your business?

After creating a personalised block for our nephew, we got really good feedback. Friends and family suggested we sell these online. We loved the idea of having our own small business, so in November 2022, we opened an online store. It took off — by summer 2023, we both left our jobs to become full-time small business owners.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?

If we waited until everything was perfect, we’d never get anything done. We quickly learned that perfection is the enemy of done.

What makes your business special?

We love what we do and combine LEGO® nostalgia with the sentimentality of personalised gifts. Everything is made in our North Yorkshire workshop with lots of care.

What's your favourite product and why?

The “Daddy & Me” style block. Created on a whim during a design sprint, it’s now our bestseller. It reminded us that quick, spontaneous ideas can be the most impactful.

What’s your top advice for small business owners?

The work is never done. Whether it’s 5 or 15 hours a day, it doesn’t stop — so it’s vital to take time for yourself. Hobbies and switching off can spark your best ideas.

Most memorable gift you’ve received?

For my birthday, I (Katie) received gardening tools to help me start a hobby I’d dreamed of. It was so thoughtful, and Stephen made sure I had everything I needed. It showed care, research, and love — truly unforgettable.
